I used Venn diagrams to find similarities and differences between two pictures and also to identify similarities and differences between two readings/picture sets. Students really engaged in the lesson because of the pictures. (Annette DiMauro, KMS)
I used 2 sorting boxes for my preschool children to sort various shapes into "Is a (Shape name)" and "Is NOT a (Shape name)" on
the Smartboard. This was my first lesson using the Smartboard with my students and they really enjoyed using it. Megan Valentino, Sutter Park
English teacher Lisa Mullen and I created a "Travel Brochure" Powerpoint cell project for our sophomore BESS/English Connections students. This project is designed to help students develop a better understanding of cell organelle functions as well as practice using figurative devices such as simile, metaphor and hyperbole. Students describe a plant or animal cell as if it were an amusement park or attraction someone would want to visit. They select different organelles and compare the functions of these organelles to various parts of a park. They then describe the function of the organelle by explaining what role it would serve in their park. The students always list this as one of their favorite activities for the year.
